Sketch Tha Cataclysm & Deto 22

Deto-22 is a Connecticut born and bread, lived in New York for a spell, underground hip-hop producer. As a quarter of the CT famed crew Phenetiks, he has been the groups beat weaver since its inception in 1994. At the early age of 12 (1988), Deto began his love affair of beat making the way cats did it back then. Starting with “pause mixing” with multiple tape decks and a turntable, he gradually moved on to computer based production using a forgotten dos program called “fast tracker”, which was a midi based program but possessed sampling/editing functions. With a record collection of jazz and progressive rock from his late step-father, he began perfecting his craft. With a heavy influence of classic, blues and psychedelic rock music, Deto’s production style tends to be a unique blend of melodic, moody, odd-patterned, picture painting, head-nod music. This fact has helped Deto progress as a “part time mc” as he would put it, and over the past 2 years has become more prominent vocally.

Sketch tha Cataclysm is an MC/producer from Waterbury, CT representing the AntFarm Affiliates collective from his current home in Minneapolis, MN.  From ages 18-22, he produced and hosted two public access television programs promoting independent hip-hop artists as well as his own music, while producing work for many others.  He has also expanded his reach into other genres such as dub/reggae, experimental, and art rock while consistently growing on the lyrical and production side of hip-hop.  After Deto 22 worked as an engineer and mixer on Sketch’s projects, Party Music For Pissed Off People and The Protege’s Untitled Is Hard Enough, the pair decided it was time to collaborate on a project in a way they hadn’t before:  with a co-authored and co-produced effort titled The Sharing Is Caring EP.

The Sharing Is Caring EP is the explosive result of the amalgamation of Deto and Sketch, two hip-hop renaissance men representing the collective know as AntFarm Affiliates.  Each trades off mic and production duties as they paint with heavy strokes on the topics of one’s validity in the art, addiction, embrace of rebellion, anxiety, and abstract expression.  Throughout the project, they weave melancholic tones through waves of record static and raw lyricism, even displaying four instrumental pieces along the way.  Its a welcome mix of the strengths of both men and a new sound to break the monotony of everyday hip-hop.
